A quick guide from installation through scoring, stats, backup, and feedback.
Open popzbowling.com. The website shows only the install screen; bowling itself runs from the installed PWA. On Android/Chrome, tap Install Popz Bowling. On iPhone/iPad, tap the install button for instructions, then in Safari choose Share → Add to Home Screen → Add. After installation, open Popz Bowling from the Home Screen or app launcher.
Open Settings and enter your bowler name. You can use Popz Bowling without an account, or choose Sign in with Google so your completed series and stats automatically follow you across your devices.
Popz Bowling opens on Bowl by default so you can get to scoring immediately. Leave Scoring Session on Single Bowler for normal scoring, or choose Team / Multi-Bowler — PRO to score 2–12 bowlers on one device. Team mode keeps each bowler's entering average, handicap, scores, History, and Stats separate while rotating through the bowling order. Enter the shared date, league/practice name, center, number of games, oil pattern, handicap settings, and optional series name. On an installed phone using Compact Phone, the main fields stay visible and the secondary fields are under More Series Options. During PRO PREVIEW, Team / Multi-Bowler is unlocked for testing.
Ball and lane tracking remain part of the Free app. Advanced Shot Tracking is off by default. To use frame-by-frame Ball + Stand + Target tracking, open Settings and enable Advanced Shot Tracking. During PRO PREVIEW it is unlocked; once enabled, change the setup whenever you move or switch balls and earlier frames stay unchanged.
Quick Scoring is the default. Just tap how many pins fell after each shot; Popz handles strikes, spares, opens, the 10th frame, scratch score, handicap, and handicap score automatically. If the first ball leaves a split, tap Mark Split before entering the second ball; you can also correct the Split flag later by editing that frame. If you want exact standing-pin/leave statistics, open Settings → Scoring Mode and choose Detailed Scoring.
When Detailed Scoring is enabled, a pin deck appears after a non-strike first ball. Tap the pins still standing and choose Save Leave & Continue. That extra step powers exact leave-pattern, single-pin, 10-pin, and per-leave conversion statistics. Quick Scoring skips the pin deck, but a Quick-mode split flagged with Mark Split still counts toward overall Split Conversion %.
Use Undo for the most recent roll. To correct an older frame, tap that frame on the scoreboard, change the roll values, adjust the Split checkbox if needed, and save it. The score and split statistics recalculate automatically.
Use New Game when the next game is ready. When the bowling session is over, tap Finish Series. The app first shows a This Series results screen for only the series you just completed; choose Continue to Overall Stats for cumulative stats, or open History.
The Stats screen keeps your main average, high game, high series, games, strike/spare, and leave-conversion summary visible at the top. Detailed sections such as league/category stats, running average, performance breakdowns, leave stats, and recent series start collapsed; tap Show only for the detail you want. Team-scored bowlers stay separate: use the Bowler filter for My Bowling, a spouse/teammate, or All Bowlers, then filter further by league/practice, center, lane, ball, or oil pattern. Exact leave/split/conversion stats come from Detailed Scoring; Quick-mode frames still count toward normal scores and spare percentage. In Settings → League Average Rule, each league can either carry its book average forward or establish a new whole-number average after a chosen number of actual games.
Tap History to see saved bowling grouped by league/category. Those groups start collapsed so long histories stay easy to scan; tap a league/category, then expand the series you want for frame-by-frame details. Any completed series can still be expanded to enter or correct its Entering Average; handicap and league running-average stats update immediately. Without Google Sync the history stays local; when signed in, completed history syncs across your devices.
This is live-session sharing only. Share Live Scores is not shown during the initial series setup. After you press Start Series, a small collapsed Share Live Scores bar appears and stays available while you score. It never opens automatically. If you want to share, tap Open → Start Sharing → Share Link to use your device's normal share sheet and pick Telegram, Google Messages, email, another compatible app, and the recipient. If you ignore it, it simply stays collapsed. Once active, the compact control shows LIVE. The spectator link follows only the selected bowler's current series and does not share your Stats screen, History, past series, backups, or other bowlers.
The Stats card shows your protection state. If you are signed into Google Sync, it shows sync status across your devices. If you are not signed in, Protect My Data takes you to the Google Sync setup. Manual Export Backup and Import JSON remain available as extra recovery tools, and the app still downloads a safety backup after Finish Series.
The easiest method is Google Sync: sign in with the same Google account on each phone, tablet, or computer and your completed series and stats merge automatically. Share / Transfer Backup and Import JSON remain available as a manual recovery or transfer fallback.
When Popz Bowling detects a newer production version, an Update available notice appears. Stay online, fully close the app, and reopen it. The notice automatically disappears only after the running app confirms it matches the latest version. If it remains, open popzbowling.com in Chrome or Safari, refresh once, then reopen the installed app. Updates replace app files only and do not erase bowling history.
Open Settings → Delete League / Category, select the league or category you no longer want, and confirm. Every saved series under that exact name is removed. Deletion markers are included in backups so an older device backup does not bring those deleted series back later.
To report a problem or suggest an improvement, use Email Feedback; it sends to [email protected]. The app version and device information are included automatically.
All Pro features are unlocked during the public preview.
Automatic uses Compact Phone only when this is an installed PWA on a phone-sized screen (500px short side or less). Tablets and larger screens keep the current full layout. The choice stays on this device and is not Google-synced.

The app requests persistent browser storage. Finished series also download a safety backup automatically so browser-data clearing is less likely to wipe the only copy.
Sign in with Google to keep completed series, stats, bowler name, and league average rules synced across your devices. You can still bowl offline; an active series stays on this device until Finish Series.
Not signed inChecking Google Sync…Google Sync is the normal multi-device protection for signed-in users. Export Backup remains available as an extra manual recovery copy you can save to Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or another safe place. Automatic safety backups still download after Finish Series.
Share a complete backup from this phone or tablet using Quick Share, AirDrop, Google Drive, email, Messages, or another available sharing app. Then import that JSON file on the other device.
Merge a Popz Bowling Stats JSON backup into this device. Existing series stay here; missing series are added, and newer copies of the same series win.
Set this separately for each league. Carry Book Average keeps the entering/book average in the running calculation. Establish After X Games uses the book average until the threshold, then switches to the whole-number actual average (total pins ÷ actual games, fraction dropped).

During the public beta, anonymous app-use events and privacy-safe startup/crash diagnostics are always enabled so Popz can verify real-world reliability and feature usage. Reports include only anonymous device/profile identifiers, app version, platform/mode, event type, timestamps, and sanitized runtime error details — never bowling scores, bowler names, leagues, centers, balls, oil patterns, leaves, frames, backups, or Google identity.

When Google Sync is enabled, completed bowling history is stored privately under your signed-in account so it can appear on your other devices. Anonymous product-usage and privacy-safe runtime diagnostic events remain separate from bowling data and are required during the public beta.
