USER GUIDE

How to Use Popz Bowling Stats

A quick guide from installation through scoring, stats, backup, and feedback.

1

Install the App

Open popzbowling.com. On Android/Chrome, tap Install App. On iPhone/iPad, use Safari and choose Share → Add to Home Screen → Add. You can also use the app in the browser without installing it.

2

Set Your Name & Google Sync

Open Settings and enter your bowler name. You can use Popz Bowling without an account, or choose Sign in with Google so your completed series and stats automatically follow you across your devices.

3

Start a Series

Tap Bowl. Enter the date, league or practice name, bowling center, number of games, oil pattern, entering average, handicap settings, and an optional series name. If you leave the average blank, the app uses the running average already stored for that same league or Practice when available. The default handicap is 90% of 220; change it if your league uses something different.

4

Record Ball, Lane & Line

Ball and lane tracking remain part of the Free app. During PRO PREVIEW, Advanced Shot Tracking is also unlocked: enter Stand Board and Target Board, and Popz records Ball + Stand + Target with the first ball of each frame. Change the setup whenever you move or switch balls; earlier frames stay unchanged.

5

Enter Each Roll

Use the on-screen pin keypad after every shot. Strikes, spares, open frames, the 10th frame, scratch score, handicap, and handicap score are calculated automatically.

6

Track Leaves and Splits

After a first ball that leaves pins standing, tap the pins that remain on the pin deck and choose Save Leave & Continue. This powers your single-pin, 10-pin, split, and leave-conversion statistics.

7

Fix a Mistake

Use Undo for the most recent roll. To correct an older frame, tap that frame on the scoreboard, change the roll values, and save it. The score recalculates automatically.

8

Move Between Games

Use New Game when the next game is ready. When the bowling session is over, tap Finish Series. The app first shows a This Series results screen for only the series you just completed; choose Continue to Overall Stats for cumulative stats, or open History.

9

Use Stats

The Stats screen shows average, high game, high series, strike/spare percentages, leave conversions, and performance breakdowns. Filter by league/practice, bowling center, lane, ball, or oil pattern. In Settings → League Average Rule, each league can either carry its book average forward or establish a new whole-number average after a chosen number of actual games.

10

Review History

Tap History to see saved series and frame-by-frame game details. Expand any completed series to enter or correct its Entering Average later; handicap and league running-average stats update immediately. Without Google Sync the history stays local; when signed in, completed history syncs across your devices.

11

Back Up Your Data

Popz Bowling requests persistent browser storage and automatically downloads a JSON safety backup whenever you finish a series. Keep those backup files somewhere safe such as Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or another backup location. You can also use Export Backup anytime and Import JSON in Settings to restore.

12

Use Another Device

The easiest method is Google Sync: sign in with the same Google account on each phone, tablet, or computer and your completed series and stats merge automatically. Share / Transfer Backup and Import JSON remain available as a manual recovery or transfer fallback.

13

Updating the App

When Popz Bowling detects a newer production version, an Update available notice appears. Stay online, fully close the app, and reopen it. The notice automatically disappears only after the running app confirms it matches the latest version. If it remains, open popzbowling.com in Chrome or Safari, refresh once, then reopen the installed app. Updates replace app files only and do not erase bowling history.

14

Delete a League or Category

Open Settings → Delete League / Category, select the league or category you no longer want, and confirm. Every saved series under that exact name is removed. Deletion markers are included in backups so an older device backup does not bring those deleted series back later.

15

Feedback

To report a problem or suggest an improvement, use Email Feedback; it sends to [email protected]. The app version and device information are included automatically.

Privacy: Popz Bowling Stats does not require an account. If you do not enable Google Sync, bowling history stays on this device. If you sign in with Google, your completed bowling history is stored in your private Popz Bowling Firebase account so it can sync across your devices; Firestore rules restrict that data to your signed-in account. Anonymous product-usage telemetry remains separate and does not include your scores or bowling history.

Storage protection

The app requests persistent browser storage. Finished series also download a safety backup automatically so browser-data clearing is less likely to wipe the only copy.

Checking…
Google Sync PRO PREVIEW

Sign in with Google to keep completed series, stats, bowler name, and league average rules synced across your devices. You can still bowl offline; an active series stays on this device until Finish Series.

Checking Google Sync…
Protect your bowling history

Automatic backups are downloaded after Finish Series. You can also export another backup anytime and save it to Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or another safe place.

Transfer to another device

Share a complete backup from this phone or tablet using Quick Share, AirDrop, Google Drive, email, Messages, or another available sharing app. Then import that JSON file on the other device.

Import a backup

Merge a Popz Bowling Stats JSON backup into this device. Existing series stay here; missing series are added, and newer copies of the same series win.

League Average Rule

Set this separately for each league. Carry Book Average keeps the entering/book average in the running calculation. Establish After X Games uses the book average until the threshold, then switches to the whole-number actual average (total pins ÷ actual games, fraction dropped).

Choose a league to set its average rule.
Delete League / Category

Permanently removes every saved series recorded under the selected league or category. Practice appears here only if you have Practice series saved.

Anonymous usage statistics

Helps Popz understand whether the app is actually being used. Only app-use events such as opens, series started/completed, and feature views are sent. Bowling scores and bowling history are not sent.

Local reset

Deletes bowling data on this device only. Export a backup first.

No account is required. Without Google Sync, bowling history stays on this device. When Google Sync is enabled, completed bowling history is stored privately under your signed-in account so it can appear on your other devices. Anonymous product-usage events remain separate and can be turned off above.
